The doubleness between Laura and Lizzie parallels the doubleness between Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Similar to Laura and Lizzie, Adam and Eve also had opposing desires, and Eve, similar to Laura, fell into temptation by eating the forbidden fruit. The parallel between the couples is also reinforced by the similar idea of a singular person. Adam and Eve suggest singularity because Eve was created from Adam, and Laura and Lizzie suggest singularity because of their uncanny resemblance. Another parallel among the paired .....

Another place where Dickens describes this revolution lunacy is when the crowd of "five thousand demons" come around the corner "dancing" to the Carmagnole, the song of the revolution. This shows that everyone who has a part in the revolution has become like one, a large mass of mindless people who .....

.... does not only appear in literature, but also in daily life. A famous case is the O.J. Simpson murder trial. Whether he committed the crime or not, O.J. has shown no signs of guilt. This can be interpreted as meaning that he either did not commit the crime, or he did so but is hiding the guilt. If the second situation is true, then he has emotional scars that do not show exactly like Dimmesdale. A more common example takes place in schools. Sometimes a student will cheat on a test, but not be able to feel a sense of accomplishment about the grade. Guilt has overcome this student and made it difficult to enjoy .....
