.... This leads me to one of Tompkins main points of discussion: "What really is the truth?" As I have mentioned throughout the essay, everything is subject to the opinions and prejudices of the observer. When trying to decipher a fact, or "the truth" you must realize that people may see a particular instance in many different points of view. Tompkins discusses this problem and its relation to the European-Indian conflict of the 17th and 18th centuries. In doing so she quotes a particular source of puritan background who considers the Indians to be brutal savages who raped and tortured their captives. She then quotes someone who .....

Abigail Williams also shows a tinge of resentment in the play. When Mary Warren confesses that the witchcraft is only pretend, Abigail is angry. She accuses Mary of being a witch, too. This reminds me of the movie, Grumpy Old Men, because of the unofficial mini contests that the two men have with each other. Comparing the film and the book, they were very similar except the sequence of events were different. In the story, The Greatest Man In The World, Smurch was jealous of the fame and accolades of Charles Lindbergh. Only some members of congress, the President, and the press knew this information. .... While speaking of the advancing enemy, Macbeth says to a servant, "I'll fight, till from my bones my flesh be hacked. Give me my armor." He refuses to acknowledge that his fate may be drawing near. He boldly trods through everything he comes upon, counting on blind luck and arrogance to get him through the day. Macbeth feels that whatever he believes is automatically right or true, despite all facts that oppose it. During his conversation with the triad of witches and after hearing the third prophecy, Macbeth shouts, "That will never be. Who can impress the forest...Sweet bodements, good!" Macbeth never quite realizes the fac .....

.... the mead hall he grabbed one of Beowulf's men who he let be devoured by Grendel. When Grendel came to Beowulf he immediately saw who he was and before Grendel could grab him Beowulf got hold of him. Beowulf fought honestly without weapon because Grendel did not have a weapon either therefore Beowulf would be shamed if he slew Grendel with a sword. After pulverizing Grendel he finished him off by tearing off his arm which Grendel then fled and died. The great arm of Grendel was hung above the mead hall. This lesson teaches us that if you fight fair you are destined to win. A second moral taught in this poem is that good must always .....

It is very unlikely that the people of the village kill people for the sake of killing people. More likely there is a deeper reason. One possibility is that the people of this village of this village are looking for a scapegoat. A person to take the blame for mistakes and sins of others, so one person dies for a community and saves the community from whatever sins that had been committed. (118) At first, one would think that Chaucer's description will be as flattering as that of the knight but soon enough we see the total opposite because at first Chaucer describes her as a delicate and well-mannered woman. "At table she had been well taught withal, And never from her lips let morsels fall, Nor dipped her fingers deep in sauce, but ate With so much care the food upon her plate That never driblet fell upon her breast. In courtesy she had delight and zest". (127) But soon Chaucer's description turns to one of sarcasm because the prioress is pretentious and is trying very hard to look the part of refinement, when .....

While there he becomes friends with two other soldiers, John Wilson, ^the loud soldier / ^the friend^ and Jim Conklin, ^the tall soldier^. Wilson was a loud spoken and obnoxious soldier who becomes one of Henry^s best friends. Jim was a tall soldier and was a childhood friend of Henry^s. He was always calm and matter-of-fact like. He also loves pork sandwiches as that is all he eats. Wilson was as excited about going to war as Henry, while Jim was confiden .....

However, it is a genuine coincidence that Romeo and Juliet were at the same place, at the same time. Some days after the ball, Benvolio and Mercutio are conversing, in regard to the quarrelsome weather. Benvolio declares, "The day is hot, the Capulets abroad,/ And if we meet we shall not 'scape a brawl,/ For now these got days is the mad blood stirring." (III, i, l 2-4) .....
