They would try to hurt each other by verbally throwing inferior describing at each other's ethnic background or physical features. Natives seem to have a natural instinct of not being able to trust foreigners. Most of the time is because they have insufficient knowledge about foreigners such as times in the novel when Jim's uncle mentioned how you can not trust the Swedes to be fair (page 84). I have seen parents who would not let their kids hang out with kids that are differ .....

This shows us that Grendel had more than just a dislike for the men, the song was showing Grendel that his ancestor was looked upon as the bad person and was therefore the underlying concept for Grendel's rage. This was the constant reminder to Grendel of his evil past and thus his reasoning for his actions. We learn to see Grendel as a less than human being, but in actuality, he is a monster who has a degree of humanity in him and that is the reason that he is so hard for Beowulf to kill. He has the human emotion of pride which ultimately is the cause of his downfall. While this seems to be a major part of the story line, .....

.... This book also made a very good movie which portrays the story well. I did have a favorite character in this book. His name is Simon. Simon is peculiar in that he likes to be alone and take long walks into the jungle while most of the other boys play. He also discovers the beast that every one on the island fears. Ultimately, he discovers the true source of evil, the , and is later betrayed by his friends. Being an enthusiastic and long time book reader, I think is a great book. It is very intriguing and seems to place a terrible spell over the reader who gets lured into this arousing adventure. I spent four days reading this .....
