The author works to provide a more objective view of events by including several storytellers. Digression also provides a more complete picture by including minute details, such as the story of Miss Amy Denver and her love of velvet. Entwined with digression is regression. The story is told in the present, referring back to different points in the past. These references are interrupted, and jumbled chronologically, reflecting the survivor's inability to dwell in one area .....

.... Clarissa's party. Virginia Woolf manages to make use of time and space to join the apparently disconnected journeys of Clarissa and Septimus. Their stories take place in a single June day in 1923, within the city of London. The day culminates with the party to be held in the evening. The party is not only looked forward to as a great event for Clarissa and her guests. More significantly, the party also foreshadows the only direct connection we could find between Clarissa and Septimus, with a doctor who, having treated Septimus, shows up at the party to report his fate. Again, Clarissa and Septimus are joined in time and space as .....

Kent's vision is not clouded, as is Lear's, and he knows that he can remain near Lear as long as he is in disguise. Later, Lear's vision is so superficial that he is easily duped by the physical garments and simple disguise that Kent wears. Lear cannot see who Kent really. He only learns of Kent's noble and honest character just prior to his death, when his vision is cleared. By this time, however, it is too late for an honest relationship to be salvaged. He saw an elephant in town and paid an Indian a considerable amount of money to travel to the next train station. Passepartout said of the price “Good Heaven, two thousand for an elephant!” (Page 41). Fogg’s intelligence during the voyage got considerably better as his traveling techniques got better. He knew that in order to make the trip on time he must not waste any time at all and gain time if at all possible for the .....

.... unpredictable mood swings throughout the play. Hamlet's relationship with Ophelia easily spawns such dramatic alterations in the prince's attitude. For example, when Hamlet first suspects Ophelia acting only as a pawn for her father Polonius's benefit, he reacts rashly, bitterly denying that he ever loved her. Hamlet said to Ophelia in a very firm and rude manner "You should not have believed me, for virtue cannot so inoculate our old stock, but we shall relish of it. I loved you not"(3.1 lines 117-119). This massive reversal in disposition is later contrasted by another reversal when Hamlet leaps into Ophelia's open grave a .....

From Goneril's actions Lear learns that not everyone is trustworthy, people do turn on their own words and he should believe in the truth, not some lie that was said to fill his own huge ego. Regan, Lear's second daughter betrayed Lear just like he .....

At one time Red Sammy found pleasure from the restaurant but now he is afraid to leave the door unlatched. He has given in to the "meanness" of the world. In contrast to the horrible Tower is the grandmother's peaceful memories of the plantation house that is filled with wonderful treasures.
