The new president was Andrew Johnson. His plan was as much mild as Lincoln’s. Johnson wanted to restore power to the Southern states as quickly as possible. Under his plan a majority of the voters had to pledge loyalty to the United States and the 13th amendment had to be ratified. Southern whites quickly switched their governments according to Johnson’s plan and restricted the rights of the newly freed slaves. .....

I think Langston Hughes captures the essence of the American immigrants' quest for freedom in his poem, "Freedom's Plow." He accurately describes American's as arriving with nothing but dreams and building America with the hopes of finding greater freedom or freedom for the first time. .... Elliot Gould. As a whole I think the cast did a magnificent job taking the viewers to an era of America, which is not easily forgotten by those who lived through it. A time when the world was being destroyed by the Nazi Germans was over shadowed by America’s self-involvement. A time when Americans were beginning to be proud of their little world power was accented by the world war. The wardrobe and setting were excellent. Poe, where the middle initial acknowledged John Allan's name. Before Edgar left West Point he received financial aid from his fellow cadets to publish a third edition of the book. Edgar called it a second edition though and it was entitled "Poems by Edgar A. Poe" in which his famous poems "To Helen" (another version was published in 1848) and "Israfel" appeared.
