Paul Edgecombe was not just “the good guy” of the story. He was not just the “white” of black and white, as some of King’s novels contain. He was not perfect, he had his faults, but he was someone who almost everyone respected, including the prisoners. He cared about his job and did it well. Paul Edgecombe was my favorite character for many reasons. He was a kind-hearted man who cared about his job. I don’t mean he cared about his job in the sense that he didn’t want to loose it because it was the time of the Great Depres ....
