Patients is a very disturbing poem in that it challenges the way we usually see the hospital staff. We would prefer to view the hospital staff as professional, reliable, stable and infallible people. Here they are shown as lazy ( the nurses ) lecherous (the psychiatrist ) neurotic ( the director ) and eccentric ( the matron.)
