.... from my memory. He is one of those authors that I always connect with my father and his college years for some reason, although I'm not entirely sure why. I've always wanted to read Hemmingway, but I've always wanted to read all of Shakespeare, Homer, and Eliot, too. The edition I'm reading has the short stories separated by "Chapters" which do and don't tell a story. The "Chapters" strongly remind me of Pink Floyd's The Wall. I was also surprised at how simple it is to read them. They are perfect examples of how Poe defined the short story: quick, (sometimes) powerful, and written to evoke one feeling. .... the universe encyclopedia both represent the smallness of human-beings, contrary to their original conception. Furthermore, the alien breeds are not perfect at all, many aspects of their actions represent a similar action which is often taken by humans: The destruction of earth without an announcement, is an equivalent of the house- destruction of Ford Perfect, one of the story's heroes, with out announcing him, both are explained by the governments as actions for the welfare of the population at the cost of suffer for a single person or for a relatively small group of persons. Adams uses every opportunity to attack the ignoranc .....

.... Jane was keeping to herself, reading a book when her cousin John Reed decided to annoy her. John then grabbed the book and threw it at her knocking her down and cutting her on the head, which bled and was very painful. Mrs. Reed then punished Jane by sending her into the red room, the room her uncle died in, for the entire night. While in the red room Jane became terrified and thought she saw or heard the flapping of wings. The treatment Jane received caused her to become bitter and to truly dislike Mrs. Reed. Jane then goes on to live at Lowood School. While at Lowood Jane meets a young girl named Helen Burns. Helen taug .....

"Golding senses that institutions and order imposed from without are temporary, but man's irrationality and urge for destruction are enduring" (Riley 1: 119). The novel shows the reader how easy it is to revert back to the evil nature inherent in man. If a group of well-conditioned school boys can ultimately wind up committing various extreme travesties, one can imagine what adults, leaders of society, are capable of doing under the pressures of trying to maintain world relations. Lord of the Flies's apprehension of evil is such that it touches .....

When they were planning to take John Coffey to help the wardens wife, he cared enough about Dean and the fact he had children to let him stay back at E Block so he would hopefully not get in as much trouble if they got caught. Although it was his job to talk to the supposed convicts as they awaited their deaths, he cared when he talked to them, and especially when he talked to John. He went and sat with them and made them feel good, like when he let Delacroix know that Mr. Jin .....
